Extras
Extras are a core concept in Orbit that ensures compatibility between Tours and the assigned Carriers, Vehicles, and Drivers. They represent specific requirements, capabilities, or features that must be matched for successful transport operations.
Overview
Extras connect what a job requires to what a resource provides. A Shipment carries the capabilities it needs; when it is routed onto a Tour, those requirements roll up to the tour, and Orbit treats a Carrier, Vehicle, or Driver as eligible only when the Extras it provides cover everything the tour requires. For example, a shipment that needs refrigerated transport will only match a Vehicle that provides the Refrigerated Extra. In Orbit MissionControl you set the Extras a Tour requires and see the capabilities each Carrier, Vehicle, and Driver provides.
A single job can require capabilities across more than one level at once — a Vehicle, a Carrier, and a Driver — and all of them must be satisfied for the assignment to be valid. A refrigerated truck operating under a carrier that lacks the required dangerous-goods certification still does not qualify.
Categories
Extras are organised into distinct families based on the entity they apply to, and all Extras can be applied to a Tour as a requirement. The available Extras come from a fixed set that Orbit defines — you choose from them rather than creating your own. Extra names are localised, so the label shown in Orbit MissionControl may differ depending on your language and tenant settings; the underlying Extra is the same.

Other Extras
These cover handling and commercial options rather than physical capabilities, together with two loading restrictions. Several of them appear as priced lines on a Tour or quote rather than as capability requirements.

A few Extras — Cancellation, Discount, Manual, and WaitingTime — are managed by Orbit internally and are hidden from the selector, so you will not choose them when setting requirements.
Real-World Examples
Restaurant Deliveries
ACME Restaurant Group in Paris requires temperature-controlled vehicles for their food deliveries. Their Tour requirements automatically include the Refrigerated Extra, ensuring their deliveries maintain proper temperature throughout transit.
Chemical Transport
Orion Industries in Berlin handles dangerous goods transport. Their Tour requires both a CarrierADR Extra for the transport company and a CarrierUserADR Extra for the driver, ensuring full compliance with safety regulations. Because these requirements span the carrier and the driver at the same time, both must be satisfied before the work can be assigned.

FAQ
Can I override Extra requirements? Yes. While Orbit enforces Extra requirements during automatic matching, you can override them manually in Orbit MissionControl. Orbit displays a warning about the potential incompatibility but allows you to proceed if necessary.
Can I add my own Extras? No. Extras come from a fixed set that Orbit defines, so you choose from the available capabilities rather than inventing your own — this keeps their meaning consistent across every organisation. If you need a capability that isn't covered, contact your Orbit representative. For free-form information specific to your organisation, use a
